Your right to cancel
MA Electricals & Gas Works Ltd · Last updated 20 September 2026
This page explains your right to cancel work you have booked with us. It applies to consumers, meaning people booking work for their own home rather than for a business.
Your 14-day right to cancel
Because we usually agree work in your home, by phone, by email or through this website, rather than at business premises, you have the right to cancel within 14 days without giving a reason. The 14 days start the day after you accept our quotation.
To cancel, simply tell us clearly that you want to cancel, in writing where possible, using any of the contact details on this page. You can use the form at the bottom of this page, but you don't have to.
If you want work to start within the 14 days
Many customers want us to start straight away, particularly for repairs or a boiler that has failed. You can ask us to start within the cancellation period, and we will ask you to confirm that request in writing. Our quotation includes a tick box for exactly this.
If you then cancel after we have started, you still have the right to cancel, but you must pay a fair amount for the work already carried out and for materials already supplied, up to the point you cancelled. If the work has been fully completed at your request within the 14 days, the right to cancel no longer applies.
Refunds
If you cancel in time, we will refund everything you have paid, including any deposit, within 14 days of you telling us. Where you asked us to start early, we will deduct a fair amount for the work done and materials supplied, and tell you clearly how that was calculated. Refunds are made to the account you paid from.
Cancelling outside the 14 days
After the 14-day period, our ordinary terms apply. Please give us at least [48] hours' notice to change or cancel a booked appointment. We may charge for materials already ordered specially for your job and for work already carried out. See our terms and conditions.
Business customers
The 14-day right described above is a consumer right and does not apply to work for businesses, landlords buying in the course of a business, or other organisations. Cancellation of business work is covered by our terms and conditions.
